Meet Director:
Receives meet entries from other teams’ swimmers. Assigns the
following positions to individuals willing and capable of
performing them:
Head Timers: They
provide the back up for timers who fail to start their watch on
time.
Head Desk: The head
desk is responsible for taking care of last minute entry problems,
setting the meet to a time line, entering the swimmers in the
events they selected and transferring the results from the CTS
print out to the computer.
Seeding/Clerk of the
Course: The Clerk of the Course is responsible for checking-in
the swimmers arriving at the start of the meet for the events they
entered and scratching events they wish not to swim. All events are
closed approximately 30 minutes before the event is to be swum
(according to the time line). The Clerk of the Course then seeds
the event and sends copies of the entrants to the appropriate meet
personnel.
Runners: There are
two types of runners. One is responsible for obtaining the timed
results from the individual lanes and giving them to the CTS
operator. The second runner takes event heat sheets from the head
desk to the announcer, the CTS operator, the starter and the awards
table. They also pick up the results from the CTS operator, return
these results to the head desk and then to the awards desk.
Awards: Transfers
the winners of an event from the result sheet to ribbons or
medals.
Announcer:
Announces the swimmers and their lane numbers currently swimming in
the water and any other necessary messages to the
spectators.
Timers: This job
requires three individuals per lane. Three timers punch a CTS
button, one of whom also operates a stop watch. One timer is also a
recorder. He records the time from the stopwatch and provides the
runner with the time for each swimmer in his lane.
Snack Bar:
Estimating, obtaining and serving the food, requires several people
for several shifts.
Hospitality:
Prepares and serves meet workers and officials with snacks and
drinks several times throughout the meet.
Officials’
Lunches: This job involves organizing and serving complimentary
lunches, usually donated by local restaurants, to the meet workers
and officials.
BBQ Workers: This
job usually requires at least two per shift to cook hot dogs,
hamburgers, etc which are sold by the snack bar.
Donut Donators:
This is a job for anyone!
